Section of Sustainable Energy

The importance of the energy sources is undoubted no matter in the past, now and future, especially for Japan with a lack of resources. Now, the economy of Japan depends heavily on fossil fuels, which is the main reason of the trade deficit of Japan. Meanwhile, to suppress greenhouse gas emissions, the importance of the national energy policies such as “energy mix” and “renewable energy as a main power supply” become more and more obvious. The aims of The Section of Sustainable Energy are to develop novel technologies to use the regional sustainable energy including solar, wind and biomass geothermal energy efficiently as well as to train more talents to serve the local energy economy.

Laboratory of Advanced Energy Materials (Itaka & Kobatake Group)

Research Solid energy conversions based on semiconductor devices can be utilized for various energy applications including those renewable energy resources even with low energy density.

Laboratory of Geothermal Engineering (Ioka Group)

To satisfy the demand for heat and electric energy using the abundant geothermal resources available in northern Japan, which is a cold, snowy region, a geothermal engineering group is dedicated to advancing geothermal explorations, assessments, and thermoelectric utilization research, keeping in mind environmental considerations.
